Parlamento ve Komisyon, # 2019 Seçimleri öncesinde önemli önerileri tamamlamayı hedefliyor

European Parliament Committee Chairs and EU Commissioners have agreed to speed up work on pending proposals in order to have concrete results in time for EU elections next year.

Ahead of the presentation of the Commission Work Programme to Parliament on 23 October, the Chairpersons of Parliament’s 25 committees and the College of Commissioners have agreed to progress quickly with the adoption of pending proposals and to deliver concrete results on topics of major concern to citizens.

The meeting between Parliament’s committee Chairs and corresponding Commissioners rounds off a structured dialogue between the two sides that has taken place over the past year, as foreseen in the Framework Agreement between the two institutions and in the Inter-institutional Agreement on Better Law-making.

The two sides underline, in particular, that progress should be made in the areas of the single market, digital agenda, the circular economy, social agenda, migration and asylum, internal security, the fight against terrorism, and the completion of Economic and Monetary Union, as well as finalizing agreement on the next multi-annual financial framework.

The number of pending legislative proposals which are not yet agreed is currently 287.

“The EU has delivered on a whole range of issues to our citizens and our companies by giving them more choice, more security and more protection. This legislature we have, for example ended geo blocking, so that you can watch your favourite films and sports or listen to your music wherever you are in the EU. We have stepped up cybersecurity, increased the protection of our external borders, improved the mandate for Europol to effectively fight against crime, taken measures to make a new financial crisis less likely and adopted measures to fight tax evasion and money laundering,” said Cecilia WIKSTRÖM, chairwoman of the Conference of Committee Chairs.

“But important challenges remain to be tackled at EU level, for instance on migration, where the Commission has proposed a revision to the current rules of the Dublin regulation and Parliament has adopted its position, by a large majority in November 2017, yet there is still no common position among the member states,” said Wikström.
